چکیده

Abstract The development of multi-stable structural forms has attracted considerable attention in the design architected multi-materials, metamaterials, and morphing structures, as a result some unusual properties such negative stiffness and, possibly, Poisson's ratio. Multi-stability is achieved through morphological change shape upon loading, doing so structures undergo transitions from one equilibrium state to another. This paper investigates performance honeycomb (NSH) metamaterials made double curved beams which are emerging various applications sensors, actuators, lightweight impact protective with tunability recoverability. An analytical treatment pursued using Euler–Lagrange theorem stability been studied. Based on static analysis nonlinear elastic system, developed tangent matrix ensuing deformation curve were assessed multiple phases deformation. closed-form solution was good agreement numerical finite element (FE) model at different bistability ratios. It shown that ratio had pronounced effect overall response desired negativity could be high

Hierarchical honeycomb auxetic metamaterials

Most conventional materials expand in transverse directions when they are compressed uniaxially resulting in the familiar positive Poisson's ratio. Here we develop a new class of two dimensional (2D) metamaterials with negative Poisson's ratio that contract in transverse directions under uniaxial compressive loads leading to auxeticity. This is achieved through mechanical instabilities (i.e., b...

Design of Dual-Band Double Negative Metamaterials

A dual-band artificial magnetic material and then a dual-band double-negative metamaterial structure based on symmetric spiral resonators are presented. An approximate analytical model is used for the initial design of the proposed structures. The electromagnetic parameters of the proposed metamaterial structure retrieved using an advanced parameter retrieval method based on the causality princ...

Advanced damper with negative structural stiffness elements

Negative stiffness is understood as the occurrence of a force in the same direction as the imposed deformation. Structures and composites with negative stiffness elements enable a large amplification in damping. It is shown in this work, using an experimental approach, that when a flexible flat-ends column is aligned in a post-buckled condition, a negative structural stiffness and large hystere...

Topological mechanics of gyroscopic metamaterials.

Topological mechanical metamaterials are artificial structures whose unusual properties are protected very much like their electronic and optical counterparts. Here, we present an experimental and theoretical study of an active metamaterial--composed of coupled gyroscopes on a lattice--that breaks time-reversal symmetry. The vibrational spectrum displays a sonic gap populated by topologically p...

Mimicking celestial mechanics in metamaterials

Einstein’s general theory of relativity establishes equality between matter–energy density and the curvature of spacetime. As a result, light and matter follow natural paths in the inherent spacetime and may experience bending and trapping in a specific region of space. So far, the interaction of light and matter with curved spacetime has been predominantly studied theoretically and through ast...
